Technology in our classrooms

TechnologyinclassIn a digital classroom, digital content replaces traditional textbooks with multimedia and online formats, using tools such as digital projectors to project content from computers to a wall, screen or interactive whiteboard (Smartboard), and document cameras to project objects for shared learning. These tools can engage young minds and help educators reach students at every level.

Many studies point to the use of technology as a rich learning approach to many subjects, including math, literacy and whiteboardso much more. When students and teachers have eLearning solutions, they have access to a wealth of exciting digital content. This changes the way kids learn by creating an environment that’s more engaging and dynamic than ever before.

Alta Vista School Council’s long term vision is to have an interactive (Smartboard) and document camera in every classroom. We have completed the first step in this vision by purchasing digital projectors for all of our classrooms, and bringing the world of the internet into students’ learning.

The Alta Vista Public School library is a gathering place and a focal point in our school community. Alta Vista School Council is working to revitalize our library, both aesthetically and functionally. In 2011, a digital classroom space was added to the library for use by all our students.

In 2013, the Alta Vista School Council has undertaken a multi-year Yard Revitalization Project to improve the current schoolyard, including replacement of the ageing play structures, installation of additional sports elements, greening of the yard, improved seating area, the addition of vegetable gardens and an outdoor classroom. In September 2014, our kindergarten students were thrilled to begin the school year with a brand new super fun play structure.
